Dear Friends of the Dais,
We have some big news to share with you!
Our Executive Director, Karim Bardeesy, has decided to take a bold step and run for office in Canada’s upcoming federal election. As a result, Karim will be on leave from the Dais at TMU for the next five weeks.
We are excited that the Dais’ work at the intersection of technology, education and democracy has inspired him to take this next turn. Under Karim’s leadership, we have, and will continue to, connect students, leaders and future leaders closer to the power that governs us, and deliver impactful policy insights on some of the most pressing issues of our time — including AI, disinformation and civic literacy.
As we move forward, we are pleased to announce that André Côté will step into the role of Acting Executive Director. André brings a wealth of experience, leading all of our work as the Director of Policy and Research, as well as heading our Secure and Responsible Tech Policy Program. Having been a “Daisy”, a Dais team member, since day one, André has helped shape the culture, values and non-partisan mission that drive us forward, and he brings a deep commitment to our people and partners.
We are more motivated than ever to continue our work of building shared prosperity and citizenship for Canada. In just four days, we will host DemocracyXChange, Canada’s democracy summit, April 3–5 at TMU and OCAD U, featuring On Tyranny and On Freedom bestselling author, Timothy Snyder, plus an incredible lineup of pro-democracy leaders from across Canada.
